Cadillac isn't feeling the pinch of the reported global slowdown in electric vehicle (EV) sales. Instead, the American carmaker is charging ahead.
Leading the way is Cadillac's flagship EV, the Cadillac Lyriq, which has quickly become the brand's top seller in the U.S. for the first half of 2024.
Despite talk of a cooling off in EV sales around the world, Cadillac’s leaders are confident.
Melissa Grady Dias, GM’s global marketing chief, dismissed the idea of an EV sales slump as a "myth."
"I love busting myths," Grady Dias said, speaking to the car magazine Drive.
She pointed out that while overall growth might have slowed down, the demand for luxury EVs like the Lyriq remains strong.
"Lyriq was the fastest-growing EV in its segment and is now the best-selling model in the Cadillac lineup," she added.
Even in Europe, where some reports suggest hesitancy towards EVs, Cadillac is seeing growth.
Shilpan Amin, GM’s senior vice president of international markets, noted that luxury EV segments are still expanding, particularly outside of Germany, where growth has reached 24 percent.
Cadillac’s strategy is clear: offer a range of vehicles that meet different customer needs.
"The availability of the vehicle is actually driving adoption," Amin explained. "The Cadillac Lyriq is now one of the top-selling luxury EVs, and we’re ramping up production to meet demand."
