A recall has been issued for Century brand canned tuna sold across Canada due to the presence of an undeclared allergen — gluten, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Consumers with gluten allergies or celiac disease are advised to check their pantry and avoid consuming the product.
Affected Products
The recall affects Century brand Light Tuna Flakes in Hot & Spicy Sauce, Light Tuna Flakes Hot & Spicy Style, and Flaked Light Tuna Hot & Spicy Style.
The impacted cans are 180 grams in size and have the UPC codes “8 06840 00009 1” or “7 74310 18460 5”.
The product was also sold in four-pack value bundles with the UPC code "7 48485 91552 4".
Consumers with a wheat or gluten allergy are advised to dispose of the product immediately or return it to the store for a refund.
While no allergic reactions have been reported so far, those who unknowingly consume the affected tuna may experience severe symptoms, including hives, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, throat tightness, or even cardiac arrest.
Anyone experiencing signs of anaphylaxis should call 911 immediately.
