The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall affecting approximately 32,640 packages of La Fiesta brand breadcrumbs due to the presence of an undeclared allergen — sesame.

Consumers with sesame allergies could be at risk of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Two La Fiesta breadcrumb products are included in the recall:

Unseasoned Bread Crumbs

  • Sold in retail stores nationwide from April 10, 2024 – January 22, 2025

  • UPC: 032327000886

  • Lot codes: 26032, 26073, 26082, 26092, 26094

Seasoned Bread Crumbs

  • Sold in retail stores nationwide from August 29, 2024 – January 22, 2025

  • UPC: 032327000887

  • Lot codes: 26094, 26123

The breadcrumbs may contain sesame, an allergen that is not listed on the packaging. For individuals with a sesame allergy, consuming these products could lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Hives or swelling

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain

  • Dizziness or fainting

  • Tightness in the throat

  • Cardiac arrest

If you or someone you know experiences any of these symptoms after consuming the recalled breadcrumbs, call 911.

If you have these breadcrumbs in your pantry, you should dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund.

At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.
