A recall has been issued for approximately 167,277 pounds of ground beef products distributed across the United States due to an E. coli outbreak, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). This was reported by EatingWell.
This recall is linked to multiple reports of illness.
The affected beef, which was primarily sold to restaurants, includes various types of ground beef patties commonly used for burgers.
While illnesses have so far been reported only in Minnesota, with 15 confirmed cases, the recalled products were distributed nationwide, raising concerns of potential exposure in other states.
E. coli infections can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and low-grade fever. These symptoms typically appear between 2 and 8 days after exposure. The infection can be especially dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
At this time, the specific restaurants where the contaminated beef was served have not been disclosed.
If you have recently eaten a burger at a restaurant and are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned, it is important to contact your healthcare provider immediately.
