Ukrainian air defense units repelled a large-scale Russian drone attack targeting Kyiv in the early hours of September 16, as confirmed by Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

The drone assault was the eighth attack on the Ukrainian capital this month.

The Ukrainian Air Force declared an aerial alert over Kyiv around 2 a.m. local time, which lasted for approximately three and a half hours, according to Popko on Telegram.

This recent development was reported by the Kyiv Independent.

Multiple groups of attack drones were launched at the city from different directions overnight.

Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted nearly two dozen unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Kyiv’s airspace, preventing any casualties or damage, according to preliminary reports.

This latest attack follows a September 7 drone strike on Kyiv, which damaged multiple residential buildings.

Additionally, Russia has launched a series of missile and drone assaults across Ukraine in the early weeks of September, hitting civilian infrastructure, including educational facilities, in Poltava, Sumy, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih.
