The Achilles Battalion of Ukraine’s 92nd Assault Brigade has dealt a major blow to Russian air defenses by destroying a Tor anti-aircraft missile system with an FPV (First Person View) drone.
The battalion commander shared the details of the operation on Telegram.
"The price of one FPV drone is $500, which is 50,000 times less than the price of a Russian anti-aircraft missile system," the commander explained.
According to footage from the operation, the Russian Tor system was deployed in a field when it was detected by the drone operators. The FPV drone targeted the radar system, inflicting damage that severely reduced the Tor's combat capabilities and will require extensive repairs.
"The Achilles team has once again confirmed that quality and determination are more important than quantity and cost. We are ready for new challenges and will continue to fight for our sky," the commander added.
Hunting Russian Air Defense Systems
The Tor air defense system has become a frequent target for Ukrainian forces, including artillery and drone operators.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russians have reportedly lost around 61 Tor systems in various conditions, including destroyed, abandoned, or damaged units.
This isn’t the first instance of Ukrainian FPV drones taking out Russian Tor systems.
On September 24, operators from Ukraine’s 77th Airmobile Brigade also successfully hit a Tor-M2 system, using similar tactics.
Earlier, on September 9, the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade of Ukraine's National Guard destroyed another Tor-M2 system in the Kupiansk sector with the help of FPV drones operated by the Striks team.
