An attack has reportedly targeted the Smolensk Aircraft Plant, a key facility involved in the production and modernization of Russian military aircraft, including Su-25 attack planes.
The announcement was made by Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, via Telegram.
According to Kovalenko, the Smolensk Aircraft Plant not only manufactures and modernizes military aircraft but also provides critical maintenance, enabling Russia to keep outdated aircraft models operational.
The facility collaborates closely with other enterprises within Russia’s defense sector, supplying components and participating in the creation of modern aviation systems.
This attack follows recent reports of a drone strike on aviation facilities in Kazan, another hub of the Russian military-industrial complex.
Among the key targets in Kazan were:
S. P. Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant: Responsible for producing and modernizing Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
Kazan Helicopter Plant: Specializing in the production of helicopters for military and civilian use.
Kazan State Government Gunpowder Plant: Producing gunpowder and explosives for aviation ammunition and missiles, including Caliber and Iskander systems.
