Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is contemplating the replacement of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, with another general, according to former CIA analyst Larry Johnson.
Tactical Errors
Johnson cited tactical errors by Syrsky as reasons behind Zelensky's decision, particularly in failing to fortify defense lines in the Kharkiv region ahead of the Russian military advance.
In an interview with the YouTube channel Dialogue Works, Johnson stated that Syrsky's leadership shortcomings have become evident, including a lack of adequate troop presence to effectively counter the Russian army.
Zelensky's dissatisfaction with Syrsky's performance has been highlighted amidst criticism in the Ukrainian Parliament over the breach by Russian forces near Toretsk.
"Fairly or not, he will be blamed [for the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces]. It seems that Zelensky now wants to get rid of Syrsky and replace him with someone," Johnson said in an interview with the YouTube channel Dialogue Works.
The potential leadership change within Ukraine's military comes amid escalating tensions and ongoing conflict with Russia.
Zelensky's decision underscores the critical juncture faced by Ukraine in its defense strategy against the Russian invasion, with implications for the country's military command structure and ongoing efforts to repel the advancing Russian troops.
