A convoy of soldiers from the Spanish volunteer brigade, known as “Española,” encountered a tense standoff while fighting for Russia in eastern Ukraine.

It was a Circus

The incident occurred as the brigade was on its way to a scheduled rotation in the Uglegorsk area, according to Lenta.

The convoy was abruptly blocked by a group of armed men, described as "bearded" and dressed in civilian clothing, who emerged from four unmarked vehicles.

Some individuals claimed to represent various authorities, including the Russian National Guard and military command, but failed to present any official identification.

According to reports from the brigade, the armed men issued vague threats and insults, creating a chaotic atmosphere. "It was a circus," one representative of the Española brigade commented, explaining how their soldiers had to prepare their weapons defensively as the situation intensified.

We Fight for Russia

Video footage captured the standoff, showing the convoy surrounded by armed individuals while the soldiers took defensive positions with their firearms ready.

The confrontation was reportedly triggered by an earlier traffic incident in which an unmarked Kia nearly collided with the military convoy near Khartsyzk. The attackers believed their vehicle had not been given proper consideration, leading to a heated exchange during which they shouted, "We fight for you, for Russia!"

In response, the Española brigade has filed a formal complaint with Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigative Committee, asserting that the incident was motivated by ethnic bias and disrupted their operations.

The brigade has pledged to investigate the matter further and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
