Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to bring an end to the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if he wins the presidency in 2024.
While the claim has drawn skepticism from many, Russian officials and state media see it as a glimmer of hope for Moscow's strained relations with Washington.
With Trump poised to take office for a second term, Kremlin insiders and propagandists are openly speculating about how his presidency could shift the global balance of power in Russia’s favor.
Easier to be Russian Under Trump
Margarita Simonyan, head of the Russian state-run broadcaster RT, recently shared her thoughts on Trump’s potential return.
According to Ziare she was speaking on The Right to Know, when Simonyan expressed confidence in Vladimir Putin's ability to "influence" Trump during any future meetings.
"If the two meet face-to-face, like in Helsinki, Putin will achieve what he wants," she said, referring to their 2018 summit in Finland.
Simonyan highlighted Russia’s dissatisfaction with sanctions imposed under the Biden administration, which have banned RT in the United States.
She predicted Trump’s team would work to lift these restrictions, claiming that the ban has harmed American workers as much as the Russian media outlet.
“These are real Americans, not immigrants Trump complains about, but people with traditional values,” she stated.
The Kremlin's optimism extends beyond sanctions.
Russian state media figures, including Simonyan and Vladimir Solovyov, are optimistic Trump will ease NATO pressures and reduce U.S. involvement in Ukraine.
Experts on Solovyov’s show went as far as to suggest that "life will become significantly easier under Trump."
Despite the enthusiasm, Russian officials remain cautious about Ukraine. According to Simonyan, Russia would reject any peace plan that doesn’t involve Ukraine’s surrender. Moscow views negotiations as futile unless they ensure total Russian control over disputed territories.
