Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has intensified fears of a potential conflict between Moscow and NATO.
In response, Norway, Sweden, and Finland have taken proactive measures to prepare their citizens for emergencies, including the possibility of war.
These nations are distributing informational brochures to households, offering survival advice and emphasizing national resilience.
Sweden will begin mailing brochures to citizens starting Monday, according to Digi24.
The materials address the "deteriorating security situation" and provide practical tips on food, medicine, and survival strategies in case of war.
Finland has distributed digital brochures to save taxpayer money. Norway has printed and delivered 2.2 million brochures, ensuring every household receives one.
We Will Never Give Up
The Swedish materials highlight their commitment to defending the country.
"If Sweden is attacked by another country, we will never give up," the brochures declare.
Norway and Finland have similarly emphasized their preparedness for self-defense.
Both Sweden and Finland recently joined NATO, abandoning decades of neutrality after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Their decision reflects growing concerns over potential Russian aggression.
NATO membership has been met with threats from Moscow. In February 2024, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned of a response to Sweden’s NATO membership.
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a similar warning to Finland, saying it "will now face problems" for joining the alliance.
NATO has strengthened its readiness since the invasion, but experts caution that the risk of direct confrontation with Russia remains a real possibility.
Nordic countries are not alone in their preparations. Lithuania has begun drafting evacuation plans for civilians in case of conflict.
