Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia is in the final stages of developing new offensive systems.

Nearing Completion

According to Tass this move is seen as a response to the United States' plans to deploy long-range missiles in Germany.

Speaking at the main naval parade in Saint Petersburg, Putin highlighted that Moscow would no longer adhere to the moratorium on the deployment of medium and shorter-range missiles if the U.S. proceeds with its plans.

Putin emphasized that Russia's development of these systems is nearing completion.

He stated, "We will take reciprocal measures for their deployment, considering the actions of the U.S. and its allies in Europe and other regions of the world." This announcement underscores Russia's intention to counterbalance what it perceives as growing military threats near its borders.

Linked to Cold War Era

The Russian leader also referenced past U.S. military exercises that involved deploying Typhon missile complexes from American territory to Denmark and the Philippines.

Putin likened the current situation to the Cold War era, specifically recalling the deployment of American Pershing intermediate-range missiles in Europe, which significantly heightened tensions during that period.

Putin's statement signals a potential new phase in military posturing and arms development, raising concerns about a renewed arms race in Europe and beyond.
