Ukrainian journalists report that Russian forces are preparing for a new offensive in the Donetsk region,
Russian Military Consolidates in Donetsk
According to them reinforced positions and assault units are being deployed.
Ukrainian troops are struggling to counter the better-equipped enemy near Pokrovsk and Chasiv Yar.
The Russian army has advanced near seven localities, particularly towards Pokrovsk from Avdiivka, a city they occupied in February.
Ukrainian military analysts describe the situation as "difficult" and anticipate it worsening. Russia aims to capture Chasiv Yar to break through towards Kramatorsk, the main Ukrainian-controlled city in the area.
Challenges on the Front Lines
Heavy fighting is reported near Ivanivske, with Ukrainian soldiers facing significant shortages in personnel and ammunition.
"We need longer-range weapons, more modern artillery, more FPV drones, and more drones of all kinds," a Ukrainian officer told AFP, stressing the urgency of increased military aid.
Despite the challenges, Ukrainian forces continue to resist, trying to prevent further Russian advances.
Kharkiv Front Stabilizing
In Kharkiv, the Russian advance is slowing after Ukraine's allies authorized strikes on Russian territory. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted that fears of a significant Russian breakthrough have diminished.
"A few weeks ago, there was concern about a major Russian breakthrough in Kharkiv. I don't think we'll see that happen," Austin said at a NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels.
He commended the Ukrainians for fortifying their defensive positions and effectively using the weapons and ammunition supplied by Western allies, including ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 kilometers.
