On December 29, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has intensified its sabotage efforts against Russian infrastructure, both in occupied Ukrainian territories and within Russia itself.
According to reports by Militarnyi, these operations have dealt significant blows to Russia’s communication networks and logistical capabilities.
Disrupting Communication Networks
In the occupied Donetsk region, GUR operatives destroyed four facilities of "Phoenix," an illegal Russian communications operator. This network had been extensively used by Russian forces to coordinate their operations in the region.
Additionally, GUR targeted cellular communication infrastructure in Russia's Leningrad region. These strikes disrupted critical communication systems, further hampering the invaders' ability to maintain control over the occupied territories.
The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated.
Railway Sabotage
A series of railway sabotage operations has also been reported.
On December 27, a freight train was attacked in Voskresensk, Moscow Region. A tank car was blown up, triggering a fire that caused damage to railway equipment.
Earlier in December, GUR operations targeted three railway relay cabinets in the Yaroslavl region, critical for controlling train movements. These strikes disrupted the flow of goods and personnel, complicating logistics for the Russian military.
In a separate operation on December 14, a railway bridge in Ulyanovsk was destroyed, while on December 13, an arson attack in Krasnodar disabled three locomotives. On December 5, two diesel locomotives were burned at a railway depot in Bryansk.
This wave of sabotage follows a growing trend of targeting Russian infrastructure used to support the war against Ukraine. The GUR stated that "the mysterious destruction or disabling of facilities used by the aggressor state in its genocidal war against Ukraine does not stop."
