A major fire broke out at an oil depot in the Crimean city of Feodosia on the morning of October 7, following a Ukrainian military strike.

Vital for Military Logistics

The depot, which is strategically important for supplying fuel to Russian forces, became a target in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials confirmed that their forces hit the terminal overnight, which they say has been vital for the Russian military's logistics, according to Ziare.

According to the Ukrainian military’s statement on Telegram, the Feodosia terminal is the largest in Crimea for handling petroleum products. These resources have reportedly been used to meet the needs of Russia’s occupation forces.

A Technical Emergency

Although the strike caused significant damage to the facility, Russian-appointed officials in Crimea reported that no casualties occurred during the incident.

Oleg Kryuchkov, an advisor to the Russian-installed head of Crimea, declared a "technical emergency" in Feodosia. Local officials stated that some fuel tanks caught fire after residents heard several loud explosions, although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Russia's Ministry of Defense also reported that its air defense systems shot down 12 Ukrainian drones over Crimea.

Drone attacks by Ukraine targeting Russian military facilities in Crimea have become frequent during the conflict. These attacks have damaged ships and other military assets in the region, including the Sevastopol naval base.

Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, remains a key base for Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet. The fleet has been instrumental in launching long-range missile strikes on Ukraine and projecting Russian military power into Europe and the Middle East.
