The conflict in the Kursk region has intensified as Ukrainian forces continue their advance, capturing two additional villages and prompting significant Russian evacuations.

Moved Several Miles

The Ukrainian push, which started in early August, now shows substantial progress with the recent capture of Novyi Put and the movement towards Vesoloe.

Forbes reports that Ukrainian armored vehicles have moved several miles past Novyi Put, heading toward Vesoloe, a town believed to host Russian garrisons.

These Russian forces reportedly consist of young conscripts with limited training, highlighting their potential vulnerability, according to L'independent.

Initial Russian strategies had avoided deploying substantial troops to this area, focusing on other fronts instead.

Take Essential Items

In response to the escalating situation, Moscow has ordered evacuations from areas within a 15-kilometer radius of the Ukrainian border.

According to Russia’s state news agency Tass, evacuations are being enforced in the Rylsky and Khomutovsky districts.

Local authorities have advised residents to take essential items and secure their pets during the evacuation, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

Previously, Russia claimed to have regained control of two villages, Ouspenovka and Borki.

However, Reuters has reported that this claim remains unverified, with no independent confirmation of the Russian Defense Ministry’s assertion that they have reclaimed a dozen villages recently.
