Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks on Moscow overnight, causing significant disruption across the Russian capital.

Three Major Airports Closed

The strikes, which took place between September 9 and 10, targeted Domodedovo International Airport, Moscow's second-largest airport, as well as several other key locations. Russian authorities confirmed that at least three major airports in Moscow were temporarily closed, with more than 30 flights suspended.

Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that 14 drones were intercepted by Russian air defenses before they could reach the city. However, the drone assaults were not limited to Moscow, according to Digi24.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 144 Ukrainian drones were shot down across nine regions, including Bryansk, Kursk, Tula, Belgorod, and Kaluga. The majority of these attacks were concentrated in Bryansk, where 72 drones were destroyed.

Vital Infrastructure Hit

Although Russian authorities claim that most of the drones were successfully intercepted, some did manage to cause damage.

In Moscow’s suburbs, drone debris fell on buildings, including an apartment block in Ramenskoye, sparking a fire on the 10th and 11th floors. Emergency services were deployed, and while no casualties were reported at the time, other reports indicated one civilian death and multiple injuries elsewhere.

The strikes also hit vital infrastructure. In Tula, a fuel and energy facility was damaged by debris from a downed drone, though Russian officials insisted that operations at the facility were not disrupted.
