Police officers are often seen as one of the most important professions in the world, as they are responsible for maintaining peace and order. A police officer is often someone you would want to trust, and if you lose your wallet or credit card, you would most likely rather have a police officer find it than a random person.

However, this was not to be the case when two police officers recently found a lost credit card

Two French municipal officers were arrested after they were caught on camera using a lost credit card to buy perfume at a local store.

According to L'Aisne Nouvelle, the officers, who were on duty on the weekend of November 25-26, found the card on the ground. They were supposed to return it to its owner, but instead they decided to use it to buy themselves some luxury goods.

The victim of the theft, a local resident, filed a police report after she saw the purchase on her credit card statement. The video surveillance footage from the store confirmed the theft.

The two officers, who have not been identified, were placed in custody and later appeared in court. They pleaded guilty to theft and were sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of six months. They were also ordered to pay the victim €150 ($161) in restitution.

The mayor of Saint-Quentin, Alain Longuet, said that the city was "shocked and disappointed" by the officers' actions. He said that the city would take "the necessary disciplinary measures."

The incident has raised questions about the integrity of the French police. It has also sparked a debate about the need for stricter punishments for public officials who commit crimes.
