In a surprising turn of events, Brazilian swimmer Ana Viera has been expelled from her country’s Olympic delegation due to an unauthorized visit to the Eiffel Tower.

Removed From Olympic Team

According to Tag24 the incident, which occurred during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has led to significant consequences for both Viera and her fellow athlete, Gabriel Santos.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee announced that Viera was removed from the Olympic team and sent back home as a result of her actions. Santos, who also left the Olympic Village without permission, received only a warning.

Both athletes had left the village to visit the iconic Parisian landmark, a move that was not approved by their delegation.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee, in conjunction with the Technical Sports Committee and the Brazilian Water Sports Federation, decided on these punitive measures following the breach. Viera reportedly responded to the decision with "disrespect and aggression," which contributed to her expulsion. In contrast, Santos’ warning was considered a less severe consequence, reflecting the nature of his actions.

Gustavo Otsuka, the head of the Brazilian swimming team, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, "We are not here for pleasure or vacation. We are here to represent Brazil and the more than 200 million taxpayers who support us."
