The new car brand Aehra, aiming to revolutionize the electric vehicle market with its electric-powered sedan, has requested approximately €1.2 billion (about $1.3 billion) from the Italian government.

This substantial sum is intended to help fund the development and production of their sleek new electric sedan and SUV models.

These vehicles are expected to hit the market by mid-2026, but Aehra needs a financial boost to achieve that goal.

The Milan-based company has big plans, with designs by Filippo Perini, a renowned designer who has previously worked for Alfa Romeo and Lamborghini.

Aehra’s upcoming models also promise impressive specifications — think 800 kilometers on a single charge, powerful engines, and a top speed capped at 260 km/h.

The company is betting big on Italy’s support, especially as the country aims to ramp up its car production from 750,000 vehicles today to over 1.3 million by 2032.

According to Automobilwoche, Aehra’s proposal includes creating hundreds of jobs, with plans for a factory in Mosciano and headquarters in Milan.

But Aehra isn’t just dreaming big — it’s being strategic. The company plans to keep its production focused, aiming to build no more than 50,000 cars per year, split evenly between its two models. This careful approach could make all the difference in a competitive market.

As Italy looks to boost its automotive industry, Aehra’s request for funding could play a key role in the country’s future in electric vehicles. The stakes are high, but so is the potential payoff.
