The debate over whether ketchup should be stored in the refrigerator or outside has raged for years. But now, it seems Heinz has finally made a ruling on the matter.
Few food debates divide a nation as much as the argument over whether tomato ketchup should be stored in the fridge or not. Even celebrities like Cardi B and Victoria Beckham have previously shared their opinions on the subject. And now, it appears we finally have an answer from Heinz themselves, as reported by Pensionist.
This comes in the wake of a survey of 2,000 people, which found that four out of ten (41 percent) Brits have been storing their Heinz Tomato Ketchup in the cupboard instead of the fridge.
The Surprising Tweet
Storing Heinz in the fridge, however, is a significant mistake. Heinz confirmed this in a surprising tweet. In a statement that caused a stir, Heinz tweeted, "FYI: Ketchup. should. be. in. the. fridge!!!"
This was later confirmed by Heinz Tomato Ketchup spokesperson Olivia Lennon: "There was only one right answer, and we are pleased to share with people who love Heinz Tomato Ketchup, that our ketchup should be in the fridge. Although we are aware that many Heinz Tomato Ketchup fans have stored their ketchup in the cupboard, we recommend refrigeration after opening."
And she concludes by saying, "This is the best way to preserve the delicious tangy taste of our Heinz Tomato Ketchup, as you know and love."
