Health Canada has issued a stern warning about balloon-blowing kits that were being sold on Amazon.ca, stating they pose a serious chemical hazard.

The advisory targets three specific products that are now banned in Canada. The products in question include:

  • 15 pieces Bubble Ball Toy, Burst-Free Plastic Balloon, Colorful Magic Bubble Glue, Perfect Boys and Girls Gift

  • 2024 New Safe Magic Bubble Glue Toy Blowing Colorful Bubble Ball Plastic Space Balloon Fashion Accessories

  • Safe Magic Bubble Glue Toy Blowing Colorful Bubble Ball Plastic Space Balloon

These kits typically consist of a short plastic straw and a solvent mixture that children use to form balloons and bubbles.

Health Canada emphasized that these products are banned because they expose users—especially children—to harmful chemical vapors.

Chemical Hazard

According to Health Canada, prolonged exposure to the solvent vapors released during use can lead to symptoms of central nervous system depression or dysfunction.

These include:

  • Euphoria

  • Hallucinations

  • Dizziness

  • Impaired coordination

The advisory warned parents to ensure these products are not in use and highlighted that inhaling solvent vapors, even unintentionally, poses a health risk to children.

Removed from Sale

Amazon.ca has confirmed that the affected products have been removed from sale.

The company revealed that 127 units of the balloon-blowing kits were sold in Canada between November 2023 and November 2024.

No injuries or incidents have been reported so far.

Health Canada stated that it has also contacted foreign third-party sellers regarding these items. Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to stop using them immediately and report any related health or safety incidents
