Cinnamon season is here! But before you bake a batch of sweet cinnamon rolls or enjoy a pumpkin spice latte, double-check your spice rack to ensure your cinnamon isn’t part of a recent recall.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an expanded recall of ground cinnamon products sold across the U.S. after testing revealed dangerously high levels of lead.

If you’ve recently purchased cinnamon, it’s time to double-check your shelves.

The brands included in this latest recall are El Servidor Corp ground cinnamon, Gutierrez ground cinnamon, and Asli cinnamon powder.

El Servidor Corp and Gutierrez cinnamon were sold in New York between January and August 2024 in 1.5-ounce plastic bags.

Meanwhile, Asli cinnamon powder, sold in 7-ounce bags, was distributed in several states, including Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Montana, and Ohio.

The recalled Asli cinnamon has a lot number "DDDLUS" and UPC "703440150723" printed on the packaging.

Health Risks of Lead Exposure

Though no illnesses have been reported, lead exposure—especially in young children—can cause severe health issues, including permanent damage to the nervous system, developmental problems, and learning disorders.

Adults are also at risk, with symptoms ranging from kidney dysfunction to high blood pressure.

If you’ve purchased these brands, toss them immediately and contact your local FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator for more details here.
