The FDA and Frito-Lay have issued a recall for select bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips due to a potentially dangerous labeling error — some may contain undeclared milk, a serious allergen.

The 13-ounce bags in question were sold in grocery stores, drugstores, and convenience markets across at least 13 states, and may have also been purchased online.

What to Look For

The recalled chips can be identified by:

  • UPC: 28400 52848

  • Guaranteed Fresh Date: May 20, 2025

  • Manufacturing Codes (printed on the front of the bag):

    • 471106504 18 13:XX

    • 471106505 85 13:XX

    • 471106506 85 13:XX

    • 471106507 85 13:XX
(“XX” can be any number from 30 to 55)

These bags were sold starting March 7, 2025 in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

What’s the Risk?

Although these Tostitos chips are usually milk-free, some bags may contain nacho cheese-flavored chips, which do contain milk. For those with a milk allergy or sensitivity, eating these chips could cause a serious allergic reaction, including the possibility of anaphylaxis—a life-threatening condition.

Symptoms to watch for include:

  • Hives or swelling

  • Difficulty breathing or speaking

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Dizziness or fainting

  • Abdominal pain or diarrhea

No allergic reactions have been reported yet, but Frito-Lay is urging consumers with milk allergies to throw away the chips immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

As of now, no other Tostitos products are part of the recall.
