For many, potatoes are a staple at the dinner table, but could they also help extend your life?

A recent Norwegian study suggests that potatoes are not only delicious and versatile but may also have significant health benefits—if prepared correctly.

The study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, tracked over 77,000 adults for more than 30 years. Researchers found that those who consumed more potatoes had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and increased life expectancy, as reported by CHIP.

The benefits were particularly notable among men.

How Participants Incorporated Potatoes

On average, study participants consumed about 13 potatoes per week, equivalent to roughly two per day.

This research highlights the potential health benefits of including potatoes in your diet—but preparation methods matter. Experts recommend avoiding fried or heavily processed versions and opting for boiled, baked, or steamed potatoes instead.

With the right approach, this humble vegetable might do more than just fill your plate; it could help improve your health and longevity.
