A French citizen suspected of gathering information on Russian military activities has been detained in Moscow, according to the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 330.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which pertains to evading duties required by the legislation on foreign agents.
According to TASS, the investigation revealed that for several years, the individual deliberately avoided submitting necessary documents for inclusion in the foreign agents' register.
Instead, he focused on collecting targeted information related to the military and military-technical activities of the Russian Federation.
The Investigative Committee stated that if such information were obtained by foreign sources, it could threaten state security. The French citizen reportedly visited Russia multiple times, including trips to Moscow, where he met with Russian citizens.
Following an operational search, the suspect was detained and taken to the Investigative Committee's Moscow department for further investigative actions.
Charges will be filed soon, and a preventive measure will be decided.
