North Korean soldiers reportedly deployed by Russia have faced devastating losses in Ukraine, with only one survivor from a 40-man unit.
They Are All Dead Now
According to a video shared by Putin critic Igor Sushko on Twitter, a wounded soldier, speaking Korean with a North Korean accent, described harrowing experiences on the battlefield and the treatment they received from Russian commanders, according to Ziare.
The soldier, visibly injured and bandaged, stated:
“We were 40, but they’re all dead now — only I survived. I have nothing left to lose. The Russian dogs threw us into battle, and we were hit by enemy drones and artillery.”
He claimed Ukrainian drones, including the feared “Baba Yaga,” caused massive casualties, recounting how he hid under the bodies of his comrades.
Treated like Disposable Sticks
According to the soldier, Russian commanders initially promised North Korean troops would be assigned to construct fortifications and guard posts.
Instead, he says they were sent directly into combat in the Kursk region. Blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin for betraying North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, he expressed deep resentment, saying:
“They treated us like disposable sticks. My commander accused me of betraying my country because I didn’t die in battle.”
The footage, shared by South Korea’s KBS News, has raised concerns over the use of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine, though questions remain about the timing and authenticity of the recording.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stated that North Korean troops had not yet been actively deployed in combat, leaving open the possibility that the video could be part of psychological warfare tactics between Russia and Ukraine.
