The Russian town of Glushkovo in the Kursk region has been placed under mandatory evacuation orders, in response to escalating hostilities.
Ensure Residents Safety
The announcement, made by Acting Governor Alexey Smirnov via his Telegram channel, according to Lenta, highlights the region’s urgent measures as the conflict with Ukrainian forces intensifies.
The regional operations headquarters decided on the evacuation to ensure the safety of residents amidst the ongoing military actions. The evacuation process will be coordinated by various agencies, including military forces, local administration, and volunteers from the Kursk "Patriot" center. Residents are urged to follow official guidance to facilitate a smooth and organized evacuation.
121,000 People Evacuated
As of the latest updates, approximately 121,000 people have been evacuated from the Kursk region. The conflict began in earnest on August 6, 2024, when Ukrainian forces launched operations in the area. Since then, fighting has continued, with Ukrainian units reportedly controlling 28 settlements within the Russian region.
The conflict in Ukraine, which initially began with Russia's invasion in February 2022, has seen significant escalations over the past two years.
The invasion, which followed years of political tensions and military skirmishes between the two nations, has resulted in widespread international condemnation and significant military support for Ukraine from Western nations.
