Russia has announced the deployment of additional forces to the Belgorod region, located on the border with Ukraine.

Nine Days of Activity

According to Ziare this happens in a response to an unprecedented Ukrainian offensive, . The decision was made on August 15, and comes on the heels of escalating tensions in the nearby Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have been actively engaged in military operations for nine consecutive days.

During a security meeting focused on the situation in the border regions, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov disclosed the allocation of extra troops and resources to Belgorod.

This move follows the declaration of a state of emergency in the region on August 14, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Belousov emphasized that these measures aim to safeguard the territorial integrity of Belgorod, as well as to protect its residents and infrastructure from Ukrainian military attacks.

First Reported Russian Gain

In parallel developments, the Russian army claimed to have recaptured the village of Krupets in the Kursk region, marking a significant moment in the ongoing conflict. This is the first reported Russian gain since the Ukrainian offensive began on August 6.

The situation is similarly intense in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, where fighting has been relentless. On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the capture of Ivanivka, a village approximately 15 kilometers from the strategic city of Pokrovsk, a key logistical hub.

According to Ukrainian officials, the current incursion into Russian territory represents the largest foreign military offensive on Russian soil since World War II.
