the Ukrainian Navy has reportedly destroyed a Russian-controlled gas extraction platform in the Black Sea.

Not a Civilian Structure

According to Ziare the platform, which had been repurposed by Russia for military use, was targeted on the night of August 10. A video capturing the moment of impact was shared on Telegram by Ukrainian volunteer Serghei Sternenko.

The attack highlights Ukraine's ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian military operations in the region.

According to Sternenko, the gas platform was not just a civilian structure but had been militarized by Russian forces, housing reconnaissance equipment and around 40 military specialists.

The strike was powerful enough that the ensuing fire remains visible from satellites.

May Involve Sea Baby Drones

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Ukrainian military, Sternenko speculated that the operation may have involved the use of Sea Baby marine drones.

These drones, equipped with a 900 kg warhead and capable of covering distances up to 1,000 kilometers, would have been well-suited for such a long-range strike.

The platforms believed to have been hit are the Sivaș and Petro Godovanets rigs, located in the Black Sea west of Russian-occupied Crimea, approximately 150 kilometers from the Ukrainian city of Odesa.

In addition to this attack, Ukrainian military intelligence has reported the successful destruction of a Russian naval vessel named "Tuna" off the coast of Crimea.
