Russia has deployed wolves to the front lines in Ukraine in a unique experiment aimed at detecting the approach of kamikaze drones early.

Two Wolves Sent to Serve

Russian soldiers have reported that wolves, known for their keen sense of smell and heightened awareness, are being used to provide advanced warnings of danger on the battlefield. The animals’ ability to hear the drones before humans can makes them valuable assets in combat zones.

Two tame female wolves, rescued from the Siberian region of Khakassia, have been sent to serve alongside Vladimir Putin’s soldiers, according to Ziare.

If the experiment is successful, more wolves will be deployed. Russian media explains:

“The predators can hear approaching drones and alert the soldiers to the danger in advance, assisting them in combat missions in the war zone.”

Hopes They Stay Safe

The wolves, named Visota and another unnamed, were raised by wolf trainer Aleksandr Konchakov.

A video has been shared showing Konchakov feeding one of the wolves ice cream. “These orphaned cubs were brought to me by hunters. They have excellent intuition and intelligence,” Konchakov said.

The head of the Moscow State Circus, Edgard Zapashny, expressed his hopes for the safety of the wolves in combat, saying, "I hope that the two wolves, who will be alongside our fighters, will not be harmed and that the soldiers will surround them with care and ensure their safety."
