Christmas is just around the corner, and so is the Christmas dinner. But if you have chronic pain, for example in your hands, it might seem overwhelming to handle the extensive cooking.

Advisors from the Arthritis Foundation therefore offer suggestions on how you can relieve your joints and conserve your energy, so you don't unnecessarily strain or exhaust yourself, for example, with cooking.

And here, an air fryer might be a helpful tool for you if you suffer from pain, says Tine Lund Larsen, an occupational therapist from the Arthritis Foundation.

Here are her 5 reasons:

  1. The drawer is light and much easier to handle than, for example, heavy ovenproof dishes. The handle can be grasped in different ways, allowing you to distribute the load across several or larger joints. You can also support with the other hand to further distribute the load.

  2. If you choose an air fryer with a touch display, it only requires a light touch. There are no buttons to press, turn, or anything else that can be hard on the finger joints.

  3. The air fryer is ideal to have on the kitchen counter and is therefore at a suitable working height, unlike having to bend down and handle baking trays or similar in a regular oven, which is often at a low height.

  4. The drawer and its contents can go in the dishwasher, making it easy to clean afterward.

  5. An air fryer is versatile and can be used for many purposes, thus replacing the use of the regular oven – even for baking.

General Recommendation

Tine Lund Larsen generally advises that you acquire tools that make household chores easier, where it makes sense for you in your daily life.

  • Buy a robotic vacuum cleaner or a flat mop system if vacuuming causes you pain.

  • Buy a vegetable chopper if it's kitchen work that causes pain.

  • Or arrange the garden so you avoid troublesome flower beds that need weeding, and perhaps get a robotic lawnmower.
