Casey Fischer, a young mother and student, was grabbing breakfast at a café when she noticed a homeless man counting his coins on the side of the road. She immediately decided to buy him breakfast and offer him some company.
"Since he might have had only a dollar in change, I bought him coffee and a bagel and asked if he would sit down with me," she shared in a Facebook post that has been shared over 229,000 times.
The homeless man, named Chris, accepted her kind offer, and the two began to talk. Soon enough, he opened up and shared his harsh life story. He told Fischer about his life as a homeless drug addict, and she learned that he never knew his father and had lost his mother to cancer.
After their conversation, Fischer left the café with a handwritten note on a crumpled piece of paper from Chris, which she read in her car. "I was going to kill myself today. Because of you, I won't do it. Thank you, beautiful person."

Understandably, the message had a profound impact on Fischer, and she decided to write about the experience on Facebook to spread the message about the significant impact a helping hand can have.
While this heartwarming story took place eight years ago, the act of kindness is certainly worth bringing up again.
