Iran plans to work closely with Russia at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during open debates on the situation in the Middle East, according to acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.
Plan on Cooperating
This announcement came after discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to Tass.
"We plan to cooperate during the upcoming UNSC session on the Palestine issue, which will take place on Wednesday," Bagheri Kani stated, as reported by Iranian agency IRNA. The debates, scheduled for July 17, will be chaired by Lavrov.
The discussions between the two diplomats primarily focused on bilateral relations, especially in the economic sphere. A significant part of the talks addressed global issues, with a particular emphasis on the "crimes and genocide" allegedly committed by the "Zionist regime" (referring to Israel) in the Gaza Strip.
Ending Genocide
Both ministers discussed the urgency of ending what they termed as genocide.
"Iran and Russia are neighboring countries with multifaceted relations, necessitating regular consultations to address regional and global issues," Bagheri Kani added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry had earlier reported that Lavrov, in his meeting with Bagheri Kani, discussed strengthening bilateral ties between Moscow and Tehran, as well as the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The talks took place in New York on the sidelines of the open UNSC debates focused on multilateral cooperation aimed at establishing a fairer, more democratic, and sustainable world order.
