A Russian drone strike late Friday night hit a 25-story residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianski district, resulting in casualties and severe damage, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Fire Across Three Floors
The Ukrainian Emergency Service reported that the attack affected apartments on several upper floors, forcing the evacuation of roughly 100 residents.
Firefighters responded quickly, battling multiple fires that broke out across floors 17 to 20 and ultimately finding casualties in the wake of the strike, according to Ziare.
This latest drone attack comes amid an intensified series of nightly air raids over the capital and surrounding regions, with air raid alarms sounding across Kyiv around 9 p.m. local time.
Russian forces launched a series of strikes using drones and anti-aircraft missiles in multiple waves from both southern and northeastern directions.
Sixteeht Air Assault in October
This marked the sixteenth aerial assault on Kyiv in October alone, with each wave prolonging the alarm for over seven hours and keeping residents in shelters throughout the night. For many in Kyiv, these prolonged alerts have become a grim routine as missile and drone attacks become an almost nightly threat.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, responded to the attack on social media, condemning the continued assaults on Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructure.
"A residential high-rise in Kyiv was set on fire tonight following a Russian strike. Russia must be held accountable,” Brink stated.
She emphasized that these attacks highlight the need for increased international accountability as civilian spaces face continuous targeting.
Despite regular air defenses, attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities continue to disrupt daily life, damaging critical infrastructure and putting civilian lives at risk.
Authorities in Kyiv are working to strengthen evacuation protocols, reinforce shelters, and encourage residents to remain vigilant. As the conflict escalates, the toll on civilian areas becomes more pronounced, creating an urgent need for measures to protect Ukraine’s densely populated urban regions.
