This topic has often been debated, but now an expert has weighed in.

When the winter cold starts to bite, the big question is: Should the heat be on all day or only when needed?

Fortunately, expert Martin Lewis has a clear message for those keeping a close eye on their heating bills. This was reported by the British media Mirror.

In an interview on Morning, Martin Lewis stated: "It's better to only turn on the heat when you need it."

His advice is simple—set a timer and let the thermostat do the work.

A thermostat ensures your home maintains the desired temperature without wasting energy. It’s inefficient to pump heat all day, so why not let technology control when more or less heat is needed in the home?

However, Martin Lewis notes that some studies suggest constant low heat can reduce condensation, which in turn prevents moisture from making the walls colder and absorbing heat. If your home is particularly prone to this, it might be worth considering keeping the heat on at a low level.

As winter approaches, it may be time to take this advice to heart and save both energy and money.
