More than 30,000 pounds of beef tallow have been recalled across the United States due to a lack of proper inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The recall affects 33,899 pounds of Lady May Tallow products, which were sold under the labels “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed Beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL” and “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed Beef Original TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL.”
This was reported by EatingWell.
Why Was the Beef Tallow Recalled?
The recall was issued because the product was not inspected before being sold to consumers. Since Lady May Tallow does not have a federal grant of inspection, the FSIS considers the product unsafe for human consumption, regardless of its labeling.
The beef tallow was distributed nationwide to wholesale and retail locations in various sizes, including:
2-pound plastic tubs
7.8- to 8-pound (1-gallon) plastic tubs
16-pound plastic tubs
24-fluid ounce glass jars
Anyone with Lady May Tallow products should dispose of them immediately or return them to the store for a refund.
So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall. However, if you experience any adverse reactions after consuming the product, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
