A former British Army officer has raised concerns that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be at risk of assassination if he does not act swiftly against Ukrainian advances.

Losing Internal Control

Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a retired colonel, warned that Putin is under immense pressure to respond urgently to the ongoing conflict in the Kursk region, according to Globe24.

According to de Bretton-Gordon Putin's position is becoming increasingly precarious as Ukrainian forces have reportedly gained control over several villages and large areas in Kursk. This progress highlights the Ukrainian military's capability to encroach upon Russian territory, intensifying the pressure on Putin.

De Bretton-Gordon emphasizes that Putin's ability to manage the situation is being tested.

He suggests that the Russian leader's internal control is weakening, which could potentially lead to a situation where members of his inner circle might take drastic actions against him.

“Putin’s tight grip on power is faltering, making him vulnerable to potential internal threats,” de Bretton-Gordon notes.

Several Security Meetings

In response to the situation, Putin has called several security meetings, reflecting his growing anxiety over the conflict. The former British officer interprets these actions as signs of Putin’s desperation, which could signal a turning point in his leadership.

"Despite being the president of a major power, Putin’s involvement in these tactical skirmishes suggests a dangerous shift," de Bretton-Gordon adds.

Recent years have seen multiple reported assassination attempts against Russian President Vladimir Putin, reflecting ongoing instability and threats to his leadership.

In 2022, there were claims of a failed plot involving a drone attack aimed at Putin during a public event. In 2023, reports surfaced of another attempt involving a car bomb, although details remain sparse and unconfirmed.
